FAQ
- What is down-river.net?
Outdoor gear: open box and used.
Sold by Amazon. Shipped by Amazon. Easy free returns to Amazon if it doesn't work out.
Down-river.net is the missing search engine for Amazon's extensive Warehouse selection -- mostly returns and whatnot, basically new but open box. Items are shipped from Amazon warehouses via Amazon Prime and have the full range of Amazon benefits: fast delivery, easy returns, etc..
Down-river.net simplifies browsing the Warehouse, trimming out all the distractions and sponsored products, random low quality brands.
Bookmark your searches, return for great deals on your favorite items. Or just lurk, wait for the right opportunity
- Who made this... and why??
Hi! I'm Jon Roig. I'm not just a developer, but also a user.
Whenever possible, I seek out high quality used stuff at a significant discount. I buy all my gear through down-river.net, REI Re/Supply and Patagonia WornWear.
Originally, I built down-river.net for my own use and snagged a sweet ultralight $35 Naturehike sleeping bag for my wife. When I started showing friends the app, they were all like, "Hey! I wanna use that!"
It's a little clunky, but hopefully endearingly so. I make money through affiliate advertising. When you click through to purchase a product at Amazon, we get a small amount of the money that you spend.

- There's lots of weird stuff on Amazon
Not really a question... but it's cool. We curate the available brands, try and separate the proverbial wheat from the chaff. If you're into outdoor gear, you'll recognize the brands we track
- What brands do you support?
We currently track 126 brands
- I clicked through and the item wasn't actually for sale?
Down-river.net updates every 24 hours, at least for now. People buy things, we don't always know for awhile. Sorry. Let us know in talk if this is a repeat problem and maybe we can speed up the updates
Also... look closely at the Amazon listing. They don't always make it easy. Sometimes the used items are listed under "other sellers"
- You should track XXX brand / category?
Depending on what it is, we can probably do that. Let us know in talk
- Why did you call it down-river.net?
Come onnnnnnnnnn... give me some props for coming up with such a clever name. Used stuff from Amazon, it's like down the river right? The domain down-river.net -- with the hypen and the .net -- makes it feel cheap, like it's the passion project of some weird hacker. Which it is
- How do I contact you?
